Deborah Pekarcik
From Paint to Thread
As a native Californian, Deborah recalls spending summers as a child teaching neighborhood friends how to draw. She'd awake faithfully on Saturday mornings to watch a program on television where an artist taught basic drawing concepts. Finding drawing magical, she became hooked and started training her eyes to not only look, but to see. She knew then that creating art would become a huge part her life.
Much later she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art from California State University Fullerton. She worked at several advertising agencies as a commercial artist in Orange County and Riverside including the University of California Riverside as a graphic designer and illustrator. Her art has been published in magazines, posters, and brochures.
She went on to obtain a California Community College Teaching Credential in Art Design and Photography and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University as well as a California Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She then taught for many years in the public school system.
So, her career has been two-fold and she feels fortunate to create, teach and share her love of art with others. She derives her inspiration from nature and now living in the Southern California mountains, finds that inspiration endless. Currently, her work mainly consists of wildlife, landscape, and flora. Her paintings show a contemporary impressionistic approach using light and texture. She is also a textile artist using mixed media including drawing, painting, fabric, and thread to create unique pieces of art. Deborah is an Associate Member of CAC (California Art Club) and OPA (Oil Painters of America), AIS (American Impressionist Society, Inc., and SAQA (Studio Art Quilts Associates). She holds local memberships at Redlands Art Association, Loma Linda Art Association, and the Mountain Arts Network and Gallery in Lake Arrowhead, California. 2025
